Mediterranean Dates and Almonds Tart

I had friends from France these days and I used the opportunity to try a recipe I found in a very inspiring btw book, Healthy Mediterranean.

The recipe is very simple and gives an idea what to make with fresh dates :)
I just put little ground nutmeg in the filling dough.
The recipe:
for the pastry:
175 gr flour
1 egg
75 gr butter
1 or 2 tbsp cold water
for the filling:
90 gr butter
90 gr caster sugar
1 egg
90 gr ground almonds
2 tbsp milk
13-14 fresh dates halved and stoned
for finish glaze with
4 tbsp apricot jam

Work the ingredients to make the pastry, line a 20 cm tin. Prick the base with a fork and leave aside to chill.
Mix all the ingredients for the filling. Spread over the base. On top arrange the halved dates as shown. Bake for 10 minutes in 200 degrees, then at 180 degrees for the remaining 15-20 minutes until golden.
When cooled brush the tart with apricot jam, heated for several minutes with several drops of orange water.

Nice! Dates are one of my favorite dried fruits and apricots are another. It is such a healthy & unique idea to put them together in a tart. Your dates look lovely -- so huge & dark!! (I am bummed I have a hard time finding good dates here)

Thank you! :)
In fact I found these fresh dates in the same Polish and Middle Eastern foods store, which I wrote about previously, the same where I found the fillo pastry :)

Kate, you know, they were better fresh :D (for me)
but if you like them dried, it's also OK to bake :)
